The boiler has been descaled and as you can see from the shot inside the element is clean as a new pin. The boiler has also been reseated on the base (this model has the plastic base to boiler ring), as over time it had come loose. A new gasket has been added and there is currently zero play (Obviously how you look after it may influence future performance so whilst I can say that it shouldn't come loose again I cannot guarantee this). As you can see (if you have studdied the photo which you should) the area under the drip tray has been resprayed. Sadly it had been allowed to sit damp by previous owners and a small amount of rust had developed. This has been throughly removed and coated to prevent recurrence. Just keep the area under the drip tray dry on these and you won't suffer rust. Take a lazy lackadaisical approach to machine hygiene and let water sit underneath the drip tray and don't be surprised with the results. The machine is currently operational and working well, however the old maxim is as true here as anywhere else. You get out only what you put in.
Use freshly ground, quality beans, finely ground to the correct grade in a burr grinder. Allow the machine to heat up properly and pull the shot with the right pressure, you will get a good result. Skimp on part of the process and results will vary. Change the seals when needed (not for a while tho they have just been done). Please ensure you know what is involved with making a coffee with a lever machine.
Watch'Live and Let Die' if you want to see how not to make a coffee! Most importantly there is a safety valve on the top of the boiler next to the boiler cap and the steam wand. Steam will exit the boiler through this from time to time. This doesn't mean it is broken it just means it is venting pressure.
This is for your safety! The portafilter handle is rusted on, and shows signs of wear. The machine is 21 years old and I want to be open in my description.
A previous owner has like a fool used some sort of sharp implement to remove the sight glass cover. Don't ever do this, ever. Use a loyalty card from your choice of supermarket if you do need to pop it off.(It should be self explanitory but I can elaborate if needed). Sadly this means there are some scratches on the back at the base of the sight glass. When sat on your worktop you will not see these.
The steam wand nozzle has been changed for a brass single hole version. This allegedly allows easier steaming. I use a Gaggia for a milk drink. These for me are about espresso all the way. Each to their own I guess, and as I say the makers of thr James Bond series of films have made an instructional video on what not to do, google it if you are not familiar.Double 14g basket (I use 12g tho). Grouphead brush (use this on the grouphead often). Not included is the shot glass. This is used to demonstrate operational nature of the machine and is not included in the sale, nor is the coffee (this was drunk). Please don't expect them to be in the box.
